STORY: Park Rangers often prescribe controlled burns throughout the park to prevent potential disastrous fires. On July 3rd, 2004, they were burning an area East of the Giant Forrest when I came upon this clearing between some pines and redwoods. The rich smokey aroma filled the woods, and may have been the only difference from a misty morning except that the dew was mostly missing.
