California Wildfire Season 2005
The fire season began with a slew of fires burning over 20,000 acres in Simi Valley, Chatsworth, Burbank and Calabasas. The Santa Anas are blowing and the plentiful dry brush is burning. Last Winter, Southern California saw it's wettest rainy season on record, and undergrowth has thrived over the Summer. The abundance of dry brush and high nineties temperatures has helped to kick off the fire season in a big way, and too close to home.

This first Panorama comes from the Topanga fire at Las Virgenes Rd. & HWY 101.
The second is from the end of the road in the Las Virgenes Canyon Open Area. A bee stung me on my middle finger before the shoot, and a teen from the apartment complex was digging up freshly hatched snakes from their underground nests to put them in terrariums and feed them and give them water. Many people don't think about the wildlife that is harmed, killed, or left homeless and without sustenance, but the fire is certainly more their loss than ours.
