Smokey Giant Forrest:

This is a piece of paradise just inside the Giant Forrest in the early morning of July 3, 2004 during a nearby controlled burn.

Below Amphitheater Point
Moro Rock from Amphitheater Point:

At 7:45am the Ponderosa Pines and Black and Blue Oaks are overshadowed by the stong light filtered through a smokey haze.

Controlled Burn Sunset:

Sunset on a ridge where brush had been burned and cleared.

Kings Canyon
Kings Canyon:

Still vast, Kings Canyon is a much smaller park than the Sequoias - but still breathtaking.

STORY: Sequoia National Park harbors many of the largest living things on the planet today. The Sequoia is one of the true giants. While shorter than the Redwoods by a hundred feet, the Sequoia is often much thicker, and therefore has the greatest volume of any tree in the world except for maybe a handful. A fallen Sequoia can be two to three stories tall laying on the ground. Some Sequoias grow as much as 40' wide. Sequoias actually need to burn by fire or lightning in order to germinate and further the species.
